Srinagar, Sep 24 (KNO): Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, J&K Police on Wednesday said to have arrested two drug peddlers in Shopian & Awantipora and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
“In Shopian, a police party of Police Station Heerpora at a checkpoint established at Chotipora Sedow, intercepted a suspicious person identified as Irshad Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Ahmad Bhat resident of Hanjipora Kulgam. During search, 652 grams of charas like substance was recovered from his possession and he was subsequently arrested,” a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 45/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Heerpora and investigations have been initiated.
In Awantipora, a police party of Police Station Awantipora under the supervision of SHO Police Station Awantipora at a checkpoint established at Chersoo Crossing arrested a drug peddler identified as Sohaib Ahmad Bhat son of Ashiq Hussain Bhat resident of Chersoo. During search, 36 grams of charas like substance was recovered from his possession. Accordingly, a case vide FIR Number 199/2025 under relevant section of NDPS Act stands registered at Police Station Awantipora and investigations has been initiated, police said.
“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said—(KNO)
